William Pierce was the first among 13 local runners to finish the Jamestown Half Marathon, a 13.1- mile race Saturday that began and ended at Fort Getty.
Pierce, 22, finished the course in one hour, 31 minutes and 55 seconds with a pace of 7:02 minutes per mile. He finished 12th overall out of a field of 386 runners, 12th among males (194) and second (42 runners) in his age group (male 20-29).
Trent Ainsworth, 35, finished the course second among Jamestown runners with a time nine seconds slower than Pierce, 1:32:04. He finished 14th overall, 14th among males and fourth (72 runners) in his age group.
The fastest female runner from Jamestown was Julia Blessing, 22, with a time of 1:52:25. She finished 97th overall, 25th among the 192 female runners and fifth in her age group (20-29) with an 8:33-minute-per-mile pace.
Blessing was followed by Emma MacIntyre, 24, who was runner-up for local females with a time of 1:54:35. She finished 107th overall, 29th among females and sixth in her age group.
Other local runners who finished the course in less than two hours were Timothy Scott, James Safford, Patrick Dixon and Donald Sandberg. Jamestowners Ying Wilcox, Jessica Donaldson, Jennifer Gillissie, Melissa Holstead and Kim Blessing also completed the race.
Patrick Cooper, 36, of Newport, won with a time of 1:18:55. The top female runner, Emma MacDonald, 21, of Gibsonia, Pa., finished with a time of 1:32:18. She was 15th overall.
The course, with an elevation gain of 647 feet, began at Fort Getty, headed east past Mackerel Cove and turned south onto Highland Drive. It then headed east on Blueberry Lane toward its longest stretch north on Walcott, Conanicus and East Shore. Runners then traversed America Way before heading south to Fort Getty via North Road, Westwind Drive, Lawn Avenue and Southwest Avenue.
