Race Overview

Join us in the City-by-the-Sea for this stunning marathon, half marathon and 5k. Newport Rhode Races partners with the Annual Newport Daffodil Days Festival to give you a true Spring Newport Experience. Our courses will pass along many of the over 1,200,000 starting to bloom around the City by the Sea. (We’ll call it Dash through the Daffodils!)

The Marathon will start at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Easton’s Beach in Newport, RI. The Half Marathon will start at 8:00 a.m. from the same location. The 5k will follow at 8:30 am – all from the same beautiful seaside start.

The Beach Mile will start at noon time, on the beach adjacent to the finish line. It is an out and back on Easton’s Beach, finishing under the Race Arch. As the race is on the beach, please plan for uneven surfaces, beach debris, seaweed, shells, all those wonderful items that we love about the ocean. This will be part of the challenge of completing the course.The marathon course is USATF certified and is a Boston Marathon Qualifier.

Please respect our native environment – STAY OFF THE DUNES, use trash receptacles, and recycle as much as possible.

Race Resources

Parking on the course is strictly prohibited. There is NO PARKING at Easton’s Beach or on Memorial Boulevard. Please plan on arriving early to locate your parking lot, take the shuttles, pick up your bib and line up the starting corrals. Aside from a break for the start of the race, shuttles will run continuously from 5am to 2:00pm.

Spectators are allowed on the shuttles, we just ask that runner’s are allowed on first. 

Car pooling and biking to the race are encouraged!

Full Marathon Participant Parking

Participants in the full marathon will park at Second Beach at 475 Sachuest Rd., Middletown, RI.

Half Marathon and 5K Participant Parking

Participants in the half marathon and 5k will park in the Aquidneck Industrial Park at 31 John Clark Rd., Middletown RI. 

THE LAST SHUTTLE BEFORE THE START OF THE RACE WILL LEAVE AT 7AM.

Things to Do

Newport is a city in the New England state of Rhode Island, set on Aquidneck Island. Its yacht-filled harbor hosted the America’s Cup, a renowned annual regatta, for many years. Newport is also known for the Gilded Age mansions lining Bellevue Avenue, some of which are now museums.  Visit Discover Newport to learn more.

Airports

TF Green Airport is just 20 minutes from downtown Newport, Rhode Island and the Newport Rhode Races and services most major airlines.

Logan International Airport in Boston, Massachusetts is about 90 minutes away from Newport, RI.

Train

Amtrak and the MBTA service the Providence (only MBTA) and Kingston Train Stations regularly. From there, RIPTA buses provides transportation from the train stations to Newport, with convenient hotels located in downtown.

Full Marathon

A 26.2 mi route in Newport, RI, United States. The route has a total ascent of 747.42 ft and has a maximum elevation of 15.75 ft.  The first half of the course highlights the best of Newport with craggy shores, wide open ocean vistas, historic mansions and intricate architecture.  After passing Easton’s Beach at the half way point, the full heads out to Middletown past Hanging Rock and Surfer’s End to a challenging course with more gorgeous views.  The race finishes back along the water at Easton’s Beach.

Half Marathon

The half marathon follows the first 13.1 miles of the full marathon route. The half starts 30 mins after the full marathon at the same start and finish as the full marathon.  You will enjoy selfie worth seaside views, grand mansions and rocky shorelines.  It is truly a stunning course. Read More

5K

The 5k will start 30 mins after the half marathon from the same start location.  It will head up Memorial Blvd before taking a right along Cliff Dr. and meandering through wrought iron fences and quaint neighborhoods before heading back down Memorial Blvd for the beautiful down hill stretch to the finish line.

In order to qualify as an official finisher participants must complete each of the courses within their designated time limits listed below. If you are unable to run within the alotted time, you will be asked to finish the race on the sidewalks while adhering to all traffic laws and on course support and aid stations will be closed.
Marathon – 6 hours
Half Marathon – 3.5 hours
5K – 1 hour
Beach Mile – 30 mins

Pace groups for the half and full marathon will be provided by Rhode Island Road Runners. They will have pacers running at marathon paces of: 3:30, 3:45, 4:00, 4:30 and 5:00.  For the half marathon, pacers will be running at 1:40, 1:50, 2 hrs, 2:15, 2:30 and 2:45.

Aid Stations will be available throughout the course. Please review the course maps to see the exact location of all medical and water stops. Some aid stations will have Gu energy gelsNuun electrolyte drink and bananas.  Port-a-potties will be available at every aid station.

The 4 tenants of Rhode Races mission as a RI Benefit corporation are based on sustainability, health and wellness, charity and community. To that end, Newport Rhode Races is mindful of the event impact on our community and seek to make positive change focused on these tenants. Our goal is to leave the race course in better shape then we found, while fostering a zero-waste event and supporting and raising funds for charities that support this mission. These charities include the Eastern RI Conservation District, Save The Bay, Newport in Bloom, Potter League for Animals and the MLK Center. The event itself is a celebration of human achievement, goal setting, self-esteem building. We encourage foster an active lifestyle for ages 80+ runners to the youngest in our sport where we fund the DreamFar HS marathon team and the Final Mile Youth Running initiative.

The communities of Newport and Middletown are incredibly supportive with cheer stations, patience and support of the runners as they complete these incredible feats of athleticism and are welcoming of race visitors. The event provides a huge economic boost during a typically slow period of the Newport tourist season.

As we are mindful of our neighbors, roads do remain open throughout the race with minor restrictions. Memorial Blvd Eastbound is restricted to one lane from Middleton to the Middletown Town Line from 6am to 11:30 am. Annandale will be closed to residents only from 7:00 am to 9:00 am.

Runners will be on the road during the times below. Please allow yourself a bit of extra time to get to your destination. Newport and Middletown PD will assist you in navigating the race route and minimizing your disruption. Please note these times are approximate and based on a rolling road impact.

As a thank you for joining us for this event, you will be receiving FREE high quality photos, sponsored by Harvard Pilgrim Health Care. After the weekend, be sure to keep an eye on your e-mail for a link to view your photos on both desktop and mobile devices. Gender and Race Specific tech t-shirts will be included in your race registration.  Early registration guarantees your selected size.  Registration after March 1, only available shirt sizes will be listed. Shirts may be exchanged for size at the conclusion of the race in the Awards Tent.

Race specific finisher medals will be handed out at the finish line to participants of the Marathon and Half Marathon.

All races finish at Easton’s Beach. Join us along the water for a family friendly post-race festival with music and fun!  The post race recovery area consists of food and beverages for the athletes and one complimentary beer to all participants of age. The Post Race Festival will be held outside in the beach parking lot, next to the runners-only recovery area, with music, Beer Garden, race vendors, award presentations and food.  Relax and roll out in our Recovery Zone.  Pappas/OPT Physical Therapy will be on site providing FREE post-race massages.

 

We will distribute awards once most of our age group categories have filled in or the full marathon, half and 5k.  For all 3 distances, we will award Top 3 Overall Male and Female as well as: 

  • Top 3 Places Men/Women (age 19 and under)
  • Top 3 Places Men/Women (age 20-29)
  • Top 3 Places Men/Women (age 30-39)
  • Top 3 Places Men/Women (age 40-49)
