Anywhere from down in South Kingstown all the way up to Smithfield, the scenic routes that showcase the State’s natural beauty will be on display for all participants. This small preview aims to offer a glimpse into the vibrant atmosphere and community spirit that will define these upcoming runs. These 5Ks promise not only a physical challenge but also an opportunity for individuals to come together, celebrate health and wellness, and create lasting memories. While many are familiar with Rhode Races through well-known events like the Newport and Ocean State Marathons, what may be less known is our consistent involvement in organizing races across the entire 401 area nearly every weekend throughout the Fall and Spring seasons. This blog aims to offer additional insights into specific events that we encourage you to consider participating in throughout the year 2024.
In its inaugural year, this event will feature a half marathon and a 5K run winding through the streets of Smithfield. Dedicated to fundraising for brain cancer in memory of Providence Fire Battalion Chief James Varin, who passed to glioblastoma in early 2023. Beginning and concluding within Deerfield Park, this debut race promises to foster a strong sense of community, making it an exceptional experience for all participants.
Another race in its inaugural year in 2024, our Wine Run at Leyden Vineyard promises to capture the essence of our well-received Westport Vineyard edition. This race invites participants with diverse interests. Whether you seek the challenge of trails and vineyards at Leyden or aim to enjoy glasses of wine after a 3.1 mile route, the Wine Run is a must-have on your calendar. Anticipate a spirited and energetic atmosphere, as this event consistently stands out as one of our most dynamic experiences throughout the year.
This unique event has you racing in front of a parade, while the course is lined with revelers. Flat and fast, this race in the Pawtuxet Village between Warwick and Cranston is a long standing tradition in the RI running calendar. Kick off the Gaspee Days festival and run along the red, white and blue line with this out and back course. After your finish, each participant (of age) will enjoy a post-race beverage.Â
Our sole 5K event in July unfolds in the historic Cranston, Rhode Island, amidst the renowned St. Mary’s Summer Festival. Candidly, this occasion pleasantly surprised me last year and swiftly earned a place as one of my favorites. Nestled in the Knightsville section of Cranston, the race emanates a lively atmosphere complemented by delectable food, captivating music, and an array of clothing vendors. Join us for an unforgettable 5K on a delightful July morning, reveling in the full splendor of the festival.
Establishing itself as a Rhode Races staple, the Westport Vineyard Wine Run stands out with a course that skillfully highlights the vineyard’s panoramic beauty, winding through the vines on the property. A highlight for many, including myself, is the post-race celebration featuring delectable BBQ catering, live music, and, of course, the delightful wine, all set against the picturesque backdrop of Westport Vineyard. If you haven’t been part of this race, I strongly encourage you to mark it on your calendar this year for a truly distinctive and enjoyable experience offered by our Wine Run.
Formally known as the Food Truck 5K, this family-friendly event caters to participants of all ages and skill levels. With USATF Certified 5K and 10K courses, the race kicks off and concludes at the Pete Sepe Pavilion grounds, guiding runners on a scenic journey towards Touisset Point, passing through charming farms and alongside quaint stone walls. In addition to the main races, we are thrilled to offer a 1-Mile Walk on the Bike Path and, of course, engaging Kids Races. Join us for a day of fitness, community, and enjoyment!
Round up the kids and join us at the South County YMCA for a delightful and family-friendly 5K, complete with costumes encouraged! Starting and finishing in the YMCA parking lot, the race winds through the charming streets of South Kingstown. Cap off the event with a family fun festival in the back field. Your participation directly contributes to the South County YMCA, providing financial assistance and scholarships to ensure individuals and families can access the necessary programming, services, and resources. Lace up for a day of fun with a purpose!
Experience the joy of a fun fall weather 5K that guides you through the charming historic town of Barrington, featuring a scenic stretch along the East Bay Bike Path. The race starts and concludes near the Barrington Christian Academy, offering a picturesque route and an animated atmosphere. Additionally, there are special kids races, making it a family-friendly event for all to enjoy.
Head on over to Coventry, Rhode Island for a route featuring three charming trestle bridges along the Coventry Greenway, part of the Washington-Secondary bike path, offering majestic views of the river, historic mills, and the Anthony Historic District—a site listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This event supports the Pawtuxet River Authority and Watershed Council, a non-profit organization dedicated to safeguarding and restoring the Pawtuxet River and its watershed for over 50 years. Your participation contributes to their mission of enhancing water quality, preserving wildlife habitats, and celebrating the environmental, cultural, and historic significance of the Pawtuxet River and its surroundings.
