Newport Weekend begins Friday, April 14th.

First stop in the Rhode Racing Series a RI Running Tour

Newport, RI:

The inaugural Spring Newport Rhode Race will be held on Saturday, April 15th in Newport, Rhode Island at Easton’s Beach. The race weekend features a full and half Marathon as well as a 5k, all starting on Memorial Blvd in Newport. We are expecting to host runners from nearly all 50 states and 5 countries and the race will serve as a Boston Marathon qualifier.  The charitable partners for the 2017 event include The Heather Abbott Foundation, The Herron Project, and Daffodillion – Newport’s Daffodil Days Festival.

The USATF-certified race takes advantage of Newport’s rich history and beautiful ocean-side scenery, providing some of the most breathtaking runs in the country.  Race weekend festivities include an Expo, Shipyard Brewery Beer Garden, music, and food.  Over 2000 participants will test their meddle and training throughout the weekend.   This course has been awarded Most Scenic in the Northeast in past years.

The Newport Half Marathon is the first stop in the Rhode Racing Series 5 half marathons in the most beautiful locations RI has to offer – Newport, Providence, Bristol, Jamestown, and Narragansett.  Rhode Races will be showcasing Rhode Island through their running tour providing the participants the experience of each iconic location through course selection, architecture, geography, and a unique vibe.

To that end, Newport Rhode Races has partnered with the Daffodil Days Festival to give our participants a great weekend while in Newport by showcasing the beauty of Newport in the Spring. The Daffy Pin will be offered in conjunction with race registration to encourage our participants to visit local merchants, events, and activities while visiting.

Additionally ? the Newport Rhode Race is being held on Marathon Weekend in New England.  With Boston on Monday, Rhode Races has chosen Boston Marathon bombing survivor and Newport native Heather Abbott as their charitable partner to honor the victims and survivors of the most horrific event to occur in road racing history.

The second weekend in April has everyone in the marathon spirit and we hope to encourage everyone to get out and be a part of it.  Join the festival, cheer on the runners, and enjoy one of the most beautiful courses in the Northeast please visit www.RunRI.us for more information.
