Rhode Races and Jamestown PD join on Officer Ryan Bourque Memorial Playground Foundation

In addition to active fundraising efforts and events, a portion of every entry will go to the Playground Fund.

Jamestown, RI:

Rhode Races & Events is excited to host this year’s Jamestown Rhode Race as it is a fundraising vehicle for the Officer Ryan Bourque Playground Foundation.  Officer Bourque of the Jamestown Police Department was tragically killed by a wrong-way driver while heading home from after shift. In his memory, a fund was established to renovate the community playground located at the Jamestown Library.  Rhode Races has dedicated this year’s event to Officer Bourque’s fund by donating a percentage of every entry fee.  In addition, the Officer Ryan Bourque Memorial 5k has been added to the half marathon event.

The event is located at Fort Getty and takes place on Saturday, September 24th.  The Half marathon starts at 7 am and the 5k follows at 7:15 am.  The Half Marathon race circumvents nearly all of picturesque Conanicut Island, providing sweeping views of Narragansett Bay and the Newport Pell Bridge the largest suspension bridge in New England. The course features vivid landscapes, winding roads, historic Watson Farm as well as the village of Jamestown with its small shops and quaint restaurants. The race starts in Fort Getty, winds past Mackeral Cove, heads straight across the island before the decline into Jamestown Village, then follows the east side of the island.  It cuts through a beautiful neighborhood before coming up the west side of the island where the runners enjoy views of windmills, estuaries, and farms before finishing back at Fort Getty. The 5k race starts at the top of Fort Getty, winds past Mackeral Cove, heads straight across the island before the decline into Jamestown Village, then cuts across the island through the center before heading back to Fort Getty.

The post-race festival will include balloon creations, massages, an awards ceremony, and more ways to donate to the Officer Bourque Fund.  You can learn more at http://runri.us/jamestown–race-info/.
